Lecture:  Early Orthodontic Treatment: An Evidence Based Approach

Description:  
Exactly what kind of early orthodontic treatment should be done and when?  Answers to these questions depend upon a sound diagnosis and appropriate treatment based upon good scientific evidence.  This full day presentation will focus on the types of early orthodontic treatment which can and should be performed in either the primary or the mixed dentition.  Specifically the course will cover:
           a)  a format for diagnosis and treatment planning
           b)  a philosophy for early orthodontic treatment
           c)  management of posterior crossbites in the primary and mixed 
               dentition
           d)  management of anterior crossbites including skeletal Class III 
                malocclusions in the primary and/or mixed dentition
           e) management of ther perimeter plane of space:
                     -  Which cases are suitable for extraction versus a non-extraction 
                        approach.
                     -  How and when crowding should be managed.
                     -  Management of missing second premolars.

Biography:  
Dr. Kennedy’s academic background includes two Masters of Science in Dentistry degrees, one in pediatric dentistry and the other in orthodontics. He was the first Fellow in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada to hold Fellowship in more than one specialty. He is a diplomate of both the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics. He is past-President of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and holds active membership in the E.H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. He lectures internationally and has over 40 publications. Dr. Kennedy practices in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
