MSc in Medical Sciences TMD/Orofacial Pain Residency Program

MSc in Medical Sciences (TMD/Orofacial Pain) is a 24-month course-based MSc which focuses on temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain. A student may after admission to the program, transfer to a thesis-based program which may be arranged with permission of the Director.

The program offers a multidisciplinary component involving physical therapy, medicine, sleep medicine, nutrition, psychology, pharmacotherapy, and various dental disciplines. Clinical expertise is supplemented by on and off campus rotations to observe and learn other approaches to pain management.

Entrance Requirements

Candidates for the MSc degree in Medical Sciences (TMD/Orofacial Pain) are accepted under the general regulations of the Medical Sciences Graduate Program. Completion of a DDS or equivalent degree is required with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (or equivalent qualification) in the last 60 units of course weight of their dental program. A clinical or laboratory research project and a limited teaching commitment may be expected. Admission to graduate programs is dependent upon the recommendation of the department's Graduate Committee.

Students receive a living stipend with an amount varying from $20,000 to $24,000 per annum for a 24-month period.

Proof of proficiency in the English language is required if English is not your native language. For proof of English language proficiency, the applicant must take one of the following tests and receive a satisfactory score of:

  • TOEFL paper-based score of 570
  • TOEFL computer-based score equivalent of 230
  • TOEFL internet-based score equivalent of 95 (with at least 20 per section)
  • CAEL minimum score of 70 with at least 70 on each subtest
  • IELTS (Academic test) score of 7.5 with at least 6 on each band
